地球が笑顔になる日。

真っ赤な大きな鼻、目や口のまわりを白く塗りたくって、赤毛や金髪もいる。
サーカスでお馴染みのピエロは、実はクラウンという。
ジャグリングをしたり、足長で歩いたり、
ひょうきんでいたずらっ子で、いつも周囲に笑いを振りまいている。
そんなクラウンのなかで、世界的に有名なのがクラウンKこと大棟耕介さん。
日本国内はもちろん、戦火のウクライナへも笑いを届けに行く。
そんな大棟さんを追ってみたら、笑顔の地球が見えてきた。

「クラウン」をご存知ですか。赤い鼻にカラフルな衣装を着た、いわゆる道化師のこと。日本ではピエロと呼ばれることが多いけど、ピエロはクラウンの中にある様々な役柄のひとつだという。
サーカスや遊園地、イベントなどで、ひょうきんな仕草やとぼけた芸で笑いを誘う、そんなクラウンの本場はヨーロッパやアメリカ。しかし実はクラウンの世界的な第一人者が日本にいる。それが「クラウンK」こと大棟耕介さん。国際的な視点でクラウンの質の向上に取り組むワールドワイドな組織WCA（ワールド・クラウン・アソシエーション）のコンペティションで金メダルやレガシー・オブ・ラフターを受賞するなど、世界トップクラスのクラウン。
大棟さんの活動はサーカス公演やイベントにとどまらず、病院で闘病中の子どもたちを元気づける「ホスピタル・クラウン」をはじめ東北や能登半島の被災地、さらにはロシアに侵攻されているウクライナへも出向き笑いを届けている。ひょうきんな見た目とは裏腹に、その行動はバイタリティにあふれ、いつも日本を、世界を飛び回っている。
道化と聞くと、どこか哀愁を帯びた、なんだかもの哀しい存在をイメージするかも知れない。しかし「クラウンK」はちがう。世界中にアンテナを張り巡らせて、辛い思いをしている子どもがいると飛んでいき、ジャグリングをし、バルーンを膨らませ、机や椅子を頭に乗せて（なんでも頭に乗せるのはクラウンKの得意技だ）、子どもよりもっともっと子どもじみた言葉をばらまいて笑顔をつくる。
そんな「クラウンK」の活躍が、世界の、なかでも子どものことを考えるきっかけになれば嬉しい。

He juggles, inflates balloons, balances tables and chairs on his head (a signature skill), and uses playful words even more childlike than theirs to make them smile.I hope “Clown K’s” work inspires us to think about children and the world at large.
