Do you believe that salt intake is equal to swelling?

You have likely heard of models and celebrities “cutting salt” before a photo shoot. Based on such information, some people might consciously avoid salt before an important day… but that is a mistake.

To begin with, salt is “sodium.” Sodium works to contract muscles, while “potassium” works to relax them. Since our heart, the source of life, is made of muscle, it is sodium and potassium that keep the heart moving.

The heart is made of a special muscle called the myocardium, which circulates blood through its power of strong contraction. This plays a vital role as that blood delivers oxygen and nutrients throughout the body. Furthermore, sodium is essential for pumping blood out vigorously; a strong flow ensures blood reaches the extremities and prevents plaque from accumulating in the blood vessels.
Moreover, it eliminates coldness and boosts your immune system. On the contrary, a diet lacking sodium (salt) leads to lower blood pressure and body temperature, potentially causing anemia and poor circulation. Knowing this mechanism, doesn’t reducing salt intake seem nonsensical?

But not just any “salt” will do. It must be natural salt to be meaningful. Common “table salt” is merely sodium chloride—refined salt lacking nutrients—so choose 100% seawater salt (such as Soya Salt). Looking at the label, salt that contains a good balance of magnesium, potassium, and calcium is best for the body.
Potassium is included in all sorts of foods, so you generally don’t need to worry about it if you maintain a standard diet. Also, if you are healthy, even a slight excess of salt will be excreted as unnecessary sodium through urine, so there is essentially no need to be so nervous about it.

As you learn the mechanisms of the body, your “Aha!” moments will increase, leading to new discoveries where you might feel your past health habits were wrong or decide to change your lifestyle from tomorrow. Equip yourself with the knowledge to choose what is necessary and right for you among the vast information available.
