From the majestic Canadian Rockies in the west to the breathtaking Niagara Falls in the east, Canada is renowned for its natural beauty. Depending on the season, you can even witness the ethereal aurora or drifting ice floes. While renowned for its natural beauty, Canada is also a diverse, immigrant nation, with a culinary landscape as varied as its people.
In major cities like Vancouver and Toronto, you’ll find a rich tapestry of Asian, African, Middle Eastern, and European restaurants. This diversity is one of Canada’s attractions.Yet, when it comes to Canadian cuisine, nothing really comes to mind. A little research reveals that dishes like poutine—fries topped with gravy and cheese—along with cranberry sauce and juice, are well-known.But with no standout national dish, what if dumplings found their way into Canada? Chef Matsui’s imagination just might conjure up a whole new flavor.

A Taste of Canada in Every Bite.

Inspired by Canada, Matsui crafted a unique dish: “Maple and Bacon Dumplings.” She selected ingredients that reflect the essence of the country.
The wrappers, with their marbled pattern of maple syrup, ketchup, and saffron, evoke the vibrant colors of Canada’s autumn leaves.
The filling combines smoky Canadian bacon, pork, apples, and parsley, all seasoned with maple syrup, salt, and pepper.
Paired with fried potatoes and parsley, the dish even resembles the Canadian flag in appearance.
The flavor is sweet, tangy, and delightfully indulgent. With their use of distinctly Canadian ingredients, it’s fair to call these Canadian dumplings. But labels aside, they’re simply delicious.
