For example, Fridays are a day for eating fish, while Sunday lunch is for a traditional meat dish called “Sunday roast.” Among the fish that are popular in Britain, smoked mackerel is a staple. It’s easily found in supermarkets and enjoyed in sandwiches or as a dip. This British-style dumpling recipe uses this popular smoked fish.
The dough is made from a blend of white and whole wheat flour. The filling consists of smoked mackerel and mashed potatoes with sour cream. The dumplings are served with roasted vegetables and a sour cream sauce.
Here’s how you make them: (1) Season the mackerel with salt and let it rest in the refrigerator overnight, then smoke it with cherry wood chips.
