How premium can a movie theater get?
109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku takes luxury to a new level, offering the finest facilities and service before, during, and after the film.

With ticket prices set at ¥4,500 for Class A and ¥6,500 for Class S, one might wonder if audiences are willing to pay. According to manager Nagisa Koga, “We’re pleased to see many guests enjoy our cinema, with Class S tickets selling first.” The moment you step into the lobby, the price feels justified. It resembles a boutique hotel, with art and furniture by renowned designers, and projection mapping from a Grand Prix-winning artist displayed on digital walls. There’s even a bar, creating a serene atmosphere for adults.
Entering the theater as the screening time neared, I momentarily felt as if my ears were blocked. “Surprised? It’s designed to be that quiet,” says Koga. In this stillness, your ears pick up every subtle sound. One guest noted, “I heard sounds I never noticed before in a movie I’ve watched many times in other theaters.” Every theater here features sound systems supervised by Ryuichi Sakamoto, known as SAION -SR EDITION-, delivering professional-grade acoustics. “Even the beautiful music in the lounge is composed by Sakamoto. It helps clear your ears so you can better enjoy the film.” This is the level of thought that went into the acoustics.

“After watching a great movie, you want to soak in the afterglow. It’s also nice to talk about the movie you just watched with someone special. We have a space for that,“ says Koga, introducing us to OVERTURE, a premium lounge available to CLASS S customers that offers panoramic city views and magical sunsets.
“Actually, the facilities are so high-end, they’re used for various other events, adding a surprising touch of luxury to Kabukicho,” said Koga. Then Koga asked me “What kind of film do you think would suit this theater?“ I answered tentatively that this would have to be Tarkovsky’s The Sacrifice, whose sound effects Ryuichi Sakamoto highly praised. What would you watch at 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku?
